About

Basalt fibre concrete reinforcing is a superior alternative to traditional steel reinforcement. Made from a single material — crushed volcanic basalt — extruded through nozzles at approximately 1,500°C to produce continuous filaments, basalt fibre requires no added materials during production. No polymers, no resins, just basalt.

The result is a reinforcing material with twice the tensile strength of steel, one-quarter the weight, and complete resistance to corrosion, chemical attack, and electrical conductivity. Basalt fibre has the same thermal coefficient as concrete — important for structural performance over temperature cycles — and its filament diameter of 10–20 µm is well above the respiratory limit of 5 µm, making it a safe substitute for asbestos-based fibres in historical applications.

Domeshells supplies basalt fibre reinforcing products in three forms: basalt rebar (straight bars and coils), basalt chopped fibre (added to concrete mix for micro-crack control), and basalt mesh and geomesh (various weights and mesh sizes). Small quantities are available through the Domeshells shop. Bulk orders for project quantities are handled directly.
